Newborn — Grady James

Sweet baby boys—they hold a special place in my heart since I had my first baby, a boy, in April of 2022. Kayley and Austin weren’t too far behind me; they welcomed their first baby, Grady James, in September of 2022. I had the pleasure of photographing his newborn session in their home when he was just over a week old!

Kayley and Austin are one of my PGA wedding couples from 2021! Before that, Kayley and I attended the same high school and have known each other for a few years. It was extra special to visit their home and document Grady’s first few days earth-side after being their wedding photographer. These two are so kind and genuine, so I knew their newborn session would be fun and easy-going.

Grady was an absolute gem!! I love the newborn stage: they’re so snuggly and sleepy and still adjusting to their new surroundings after being protected by mama for so many months. His head was full of dark, thick hair and he was as plump and perfect as all newborns are.

We started with some photos in Grady’s nursery, which was decorated in the cutest fishing team using neutral colors and pops of light blue. Perfect for a little boy! We then moved onto the rest of the house and used their living room and master bedroom for the remainder of the session. We circled back to Grady’s nursery for a few of him in his crib at the end!

I always like to recommend that the parents book their babe’s newborn session within 2-3 weeks of their birth. The sooner, the better! That way, baby is still plenty sleepy and cozy and easily (most of the time) moved from place to place as we’re shooting their newborn session. Kayley and Austin are already proving how amazing they are as parents, and I know their baby boy is so very loved. I can’t wait to watch him grow and continue to document his life with his awesome parents!
